What is Chiropractic?

Chiropractic is a natural health science which is centered around the distinct art and application of the chiropractic adjustment and is anchored by the vitalistic philosophy of the body's innate ability to heal, grow and adapt to the world around it.

Our bodies are designed to be self-maintaining, self-healing and self-developing in nature.  Our body's nerve system is its primary source for healing and maintaining health.  The nerve system is housed in and protected by the spine.  Directly or indirectly, all bodily function is controlled by the nerve system.  Of primary concern to chiropractic are abnormalities of structure and/or function of the vertebral column known clinically as the Vertebral Subluxation Complex (VSC).

The Vertebral Subluxation Complex includes any alteration in the dynamics of structure and/or function of the spine which can cause nerve system interference. The VSC is caused by daily exposure to physical, emotional and environmental stressors and can be expressed by pain, physical symptoms, body system dysfunction and dis-ease.  All areas of life, from the things that you eat to the relationships you have, are equal contribuators to promoting or detracting from optimal health.  In order to continue moving toward optimal health one must remove as much intereference to the nervous system as possible.  This is accomplished through diet, exercise, healthy relationships, positive thinking, redution of environmental toxin and removal of the Vertebral Subluxation Complex.  Doctors of Chiropractic are the only health professionals trained in the specific identificaion and removal Subluxation.
